Cardinal Drive Park Inclusive Playground Project

Rolling Meadows Park District is pleased to announce construction has begun on the renovation of Cardinal Drive Park. As the project lies in a floodway and will require compensatory storage, the Park District is currently in the permitting phase with the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District (MWRD) of Greater Chicago and is also awaiting a letter of no objection from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Once these items are secured, construction on the renovation project will continue.

The project will include a complete renovation of the park, originally constructed in 1961 and located at 2708 Cardinal Drive. Components of the project include the development of an inclusive playground, featuring new playground equipment and surfacing that promote inclusive play for children of all ages and ability levels. The project will also include the addition of two pickleball courts. A majority of the work will be performed by team members of the Park District's Parks Department. It is anticipated the renovation of Cardinal Drive Park will be completed in fall 2021.

“We are extremely excited to be creating an inclusive playground for children of ALL abilities at Cardinal Drive Park,” said Executive Director Kevin Romejko. “The situation certainly called for the redevelopment, and at the end of the day the project at Cardinal Drive Park will inspire our community to live happier and healthier lives by providing exceptional opportunities to play, learn and grow.”

The Cardinal Drive Park project is being financed, in part, with a $312,600 grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) Open Space Land Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) program.

Cardinal Drive Park was last renovated in 2002.
